In this section, I will break down everything you need to purchase for a custom keyboard.
Barebone Keyboards: Barebone keyboards are the foundation of your keyboard. Barebone keyboards allow you to start your keyboard customization. Picking out the right barebones layout (size) you want, gets you set up for the rest of the customization process. Barebone keyboards range in sizes anywhere from 60% to a full 110% keyboard. Barebone keyboards also can come wired, wireless, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi adaptable.
Switches: Switches are located inside the barebones keyboard but underneath the keycaps. Essentially switches are the patty to your hamburger. Switches can come in all shapes and sizes depending on the barebones layout you have chosen. Switches also come in different styles: Clicky, Linear, and Tactile. Switches can also be modified, at Custom Key Creations, I can lube all of your switches with Divinikey 205 G0 Lubrication made for mechanical switches.
Clicky: Clicky switches are exactly what they sound like. They are the loudest type of switch you can buy in stock and unmodified, and the most popular clicky switches are Blue switches.
Linear - Thocky/Creamy: Linear switches are the quietest switches you can buy in stock and unmodified, and the most popular linear switches are HMX SU switches.
Tactile: Tactile switches are a happy medium between a switch being loud and a switch being quiet. Tactile switches are known for being in that middle range where people can say “Take a listen at my cool-sounding keyboard” and still be able to do work in public with their custom keyboard. The most popular tactile switch is the Gazzew Boba U4T.
Keycaps: Keycaps are the last part of your keyboard that you need to buy to complete your fully custom keyboard from Custom Key Creations. The keycaps can come in all kinds of different, sizes, colors, and designs. The sizes are Cherry MX, OEM, SA, SA ROW3, DCS, XDA, DSA, and G20. All of these are completely customizable. The awesome thing about keycaps is that you can have the command keys one size, color, or design and the rest of the keys another color, size, or design.
Additions to your Keyboard: Add-ons or additions to your keyboard will enhance the sound and typing ability of your custom keyboard build. These additions you can make to your keyboard include: getting a thin layer of Styrofoam on the inside of your keyboard to soften the sound of your keyboard and getting custom stabilizers inside of your keyboard; stabilizers come in almost every barebones keyboard but the pre-installed stabilizers you get in your barebones keyboard are not lubed or in a custom color to match the rest of your keyboard; and 95% of the time the pre-installed stabilizers are not installed carefully and may cause your stabilized keys to be faulty when typing with them. Finally, you can get all your switches lubed with Divinikey 205 G0 Lubrication made for mechanical switches. Lubing your switches will significantly increase your WPM (Words Per Minute) and give you a smoother typing experience.
If you want to get the most out of your custom keyboard at Custom Key Creations then I recommend that you invest in all of my additions to enhance the best typing performance. Remember there is a key to success in every keyboard purchased at Custom Key Creations.
